Three lessons in one.
Lesson 4a: Get windscreen insurance and even pay a little extra to avoid the excess, because you’re probably going to need it. Fortunately, I have already learned this lesson so we were covered when we saw a crack rising from the centre of the windscreen. I couldn’t work how it started. We heard a big stone nit the windscreen 2 days earlier, but couldn’t see a chip. On day 5 we saw the crack and when I looked at it from the outside, I could see it was rising from a big chip right at the bottom of the windscreen under the wiper blades, behind the dash.
Lesson 4b: Carry a windscreen repair kit. I had meant to get one but forgot. Fortunately, we found an auto store in Peterborough that had some before the crack got too big.
Lesson 4c: Don’t lean on the windscreen while you are repairing it. The resin needs to be applied in the shade, and cured in the sun, so I thought I would just lie on the windscreen to shade the crack while I put the resin in, then leave it to cure in the sun. Unfortunately, I made the crack 3 times larger by leaning on the windscreen.
