Lesson #5: embrace the dust

We were warned that red dust would get everywhere, but wow.

When we got to the Hilton at Alice after the Larapinta, we tried to wash our clothes in the bathtub, but after filling the tub 4 times and rinsing the clothes, they still left red muddy water.

The outside of the car is covered in dust so constantly climbing over it to get things from the roof, and leaning in the back gives your clothes a reddish hue. Fortunately, the car seals pretty well so the inside is clean, except the floor but the floor is plastic and can be mopped out.

Inside still pretty good but showing signs of turning red

The best way to deal with it is to enjoy it and let everything get dusty, and just wash out your socks and undies regularly. We have a clothes line in the back of the car which dries them during the day. Definitely DON’T try to brush it all away as it just creates massive dust clouds. Embrace it.

My green T-shirt AFTER I washed it

We have 5 days R&R in Darwin coming up so we will probably do a few loads using the washing machine in the apartment.
