Day 26: Mt Hart to Manning River Campground, 220km

Traveling further up the Gibb River Road, stopping at gorges and having the most beautiful swims: great scenery and clear cool water on a hot day.

After tackling the 50km road out of Mt Hart we were back on the Gibb River Road heading North to Mt Barnett Roadhouse and the neighbouring campground on the Manning River.

We stopped at Bell Gorge, Adcock Gorge and Galvans Gorge on the way. Bell Gorge is a 29km drive and we weren’t sure it was worth it but it was the best one we have seen. We weren’t prepared to swim but we had to (long walk in on a hot day, and a great swimming spot) so we went in in our undies and dried off sitting on a rock afterwards, watching all the oldies from the tour bus slipping on the rocks.

Adcock Gorge was only 5km off the main road but a very difficult track – the worst yet but the car tackled it easy. Smaller gorge, but also really nice.

Galvans Gorge is a 1km walk from the main road and we went prepared to swim and we did, with both of us sitting under the waterfall with gallons of warm water falling on our heads.

Arrived at Mr Barnett Roadhouse at 3:45 for fuel and dinner but they close at 3! No problem, straight to the nearby campground for jaffles on an open fire and some of mum’s fruit cake. The only thing missing was the beer, which we thought we were going to get from the roadhouse. Have to plan ahead a bit more and keep some in the fridge from now on.
