Best. Campsite. Ever. We wanted to stay at Lorella Springs, another station on the "Savannah Way" that has been doing tourism for decades but they closed to the public this year (tour groups only) so we found Seven Emu on the map. On the Robinson River that runs into the gulf, it is hard to get to but the 6 campsites they offer are amazing.

Seven Emu is a partnership between the indigenous landholder and the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, using over 300,000 hectares of the full property (that is still a working station). They own over 50km of Robinson River frontage and over 50km of coastline on the Gulf of Carpentaria.
They only have a few basic campsites, but they have constructed showers with heated water via a "donkey" (you have to light a fire yourself), toilets and makeshift shelters. Each campsite is separate from the others and with its own facilities, and each one is perched on top of a cliff overlooking the river. Not only do they allow open fires, they even cut firewood for you and leave it at the campsite. There is plenty of wildlife and obviously, there is great fishing and you can drop your boat in at the ramp or fish off the banks. It was quite a find and we would recommend this spot to anyone coming this way.
